Woman faces drug charges

URBANA — A Champaign woman who had a large amount of suspected LSD in her purse when arrested Friday night was criminally charged Tuesday in Champaign County Circuit Court.

State's Attorney Julia Rietz said Tiffany Sowinski, 31, who listed an address in the 1500 block of Kiler Drive, was arrested about 7:40 p.m. Friday for allegedly stealing three watches at J.C. Penney at the Market Place Mall.

Champaign police found one watch on her wrist and two more in her purse. They also found in her purse a locked bank bag that she claimed not to have a key for.

Police cut open the bag and found 216 hits of LSD and a half-gram of suspected methamphetamine, Rietz said.

On Tuesday, Sowinski was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance for the LSD, a Class X felony carrying a mandatory prison sentence of between nine and 40 years upon conviction. She was also charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Class 4 felony.

She was told to be back in court April 8.
