Man sentenced to probation in theft

URBANA — A Champaign man who admitted he stole a laptop computer from a neighbor has been sentenced to a year of probation.

Travis T. Williams, 22, who listed an address in the 2100 block of West White Street, pleaded guilty Friday before Champaign County Judge Harry Clem to felony theft, admitting that on Jan. 2 he took a laptop computer from the apartment of a neighbor.

A more serious felony charge of residential burglary was dismissed in return for the plea.

Williams was also sentenced to 37 days in jail but given credit for time already served and ordered to pay the victim $600 in restitution.

Court records show he was on probation for domestic battery at the time of his arrest.
