Rural Fisher home invasion investigated

FISHER - Two men received minor injuries in an early morning home invasion north of Fisher Saturday.

Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Vercler said three young men from the Rantoul area were at a home in the 600 block of County Road 3300 N about 12:45 a.m. when three armed, masked men came in the house and robbed them.

"They were playing video games and the guys walked in," said Vercler.

The intruders were armed with a shotgun, handgun, bat and knife, he said.

They tied up two of the young men who were present - two were 19 and one was 20 - while the third ran from the home and went to a neighbor's to call 911.

"They were there about five to 10 minutes," Vercler said.

They took an Xbox 360 gaming system, two games for it, three cellphones, a wallet and $20 cash. They also ransacked a couple of rooms.

The young men who were at the home were friends of a resident, who was at work. His parents were out of town, Vercler said.

The victims did not recognize the intruders, he said. They had black ski masks pulled over their heads and wore dark clothing.

Vercler said although the motive was unclear, the home invasion is believed to be "an isolated incident."

One victim had a bump on the arm, apparently from being hit with the bat, while the other had a cut lip.

Vercler said the intruders were gone by the time deputies got to the home.
