Weather wreaking havoc on mains in Westville

WESTVILLE — Aging pipes and a stretch of low temperatures have resulted in 17 water main breaks so far this winter, village board member Mark Dunham said.

The three most-recent breaks occurred on mains along Adams, Jefferson and South streets. Dunham said some of the affected mains have been 6 inches in diameter, and the amount of water coming out has complicated repair work.

Board members praised village workers for their efforts in making the repairs.

In other business this week, the board voted to have Lagacy Electric of Georgetown fix a light pole in Zamberletti Park and lights on the entrance signs on the north and south sides of the village that were damaged by wind in November. The work is expected to cost about $5,060, and will be paid by the village's insurance carrier.
