Free dental services to be offered March 8

CHAMPAIGN — Free dental cleanings and exams will be available to children and teens March 8 at the annual Give Kids a Smile event in Champaign.

It will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. that Saturday at the Fluid Events Center, 601 N. Country Fair Drive, C.

Free fluoride varnish treatments will also be available.

Children ages 1 to 17 are eligible for the free services being provided by local dentists and hygienists, who are volunteering their time for the event sponsored by the Illini District Dental Society.

In addition to dental care, there will also be free activities including face painting, dental-hygiene education, toothbrush giveaways and visits and pictures taken with "Flossie" from the Illinois State Dental Society, the tooth fairy and the Delta Dental "Tooth Wizard."

The Twin City Derby Girls will also be present to talk about their sport and mouth guards.

To get care, children and teens must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Appointments aren't necessary, and there are no income or residency requirements.

Also participating are the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District, SmileHealthy and the Parkland College dental-hygiene program.
