Urbana man arrested on warrant charging him with sex crimes

URBANA — An Urbana man is due back in court next month on charges that he sexually molested a teenage girl.

Kenneth "Kenny" D. Laroe, 55, of the 1200 block of Kerr Avenue, was arrested Monday on a warrant issued last week charging him with three counts of criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Champaign County sheriff's investigator Jody Ferry said the case came to the attention of his department in mid-February when the alleged victim confided in a Facebook friend that Laroe had inappropriately touched her in January.

The friend contacted police, who began an investigation that included a forensic interview of the alleged victim and an interview with Laroe.

Ferry said Laroe admitted having sexual contact with the teen on more than one occasion.

If convicted of the most serious of the charges, he faces four to 15 years in prison.

Laroe was arraigned Monday and told to be back in court April 29. He remains in the Champaign County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bond.
