Tolono board backs funds for fire station

TOLONO — The village board approved reimbursing $850,000 from its tax increment financing district to help the fire department build a new station on the village's east side, where the Tolono Primary School once stood.

The village will give the fire department $250,000 in July and $50,000 every year through the end of the TIF district, 2026.

Village Trustees Beth Hewing and Beth Erwin had supported a plan to give the fire department $250,000 this year and $62,500 in subsequent years, for a total of $1 million.

"It's important to bring business into town," Erwin said. "Where they're at now (205 E. Main St.) is horrible."
