Lake of the Woods bridge work to affect I-74

MAHOMET — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the bridge carrying Lake of the Woods Road over Interstate 74 will have new steel bridge beams erected beginning Tuesday night.

To safely accommodate the work, westbound I-74 will be closed to traffic on March 11, 12 and 13. And on March 18, 19 and 20, eastbound I-74 will be closed to traffic for the safe setting of the bridge beams.

The closures will happen between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on those days. Interstate traffic will be detoured using Illinois 47, U.S. 150 (Lombard Street in Mahomet), and Prairieview Road. The opposing lanes of I-74 may be reduced to one lane intermittently during this time.

The overall project has an anticipated completion date of Aug. 14 depending on weather.

The contractor for the $4,337,489 project is Stark Excavating, Inc.

Motorists are advised to slow down, obey posted limits and drive carefully through this and all work zones. Due to the high volume of traffic, motorists may want to consider alternate routes.
