Autopsy confirms Hoopeston man died from gunshot

HOOPESTON — Preliminary autopsy results confirm that a Hoopeston man whose body was found in a motel room Sunday night died of a gunshot wound.

Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson released the autopsy results for 40-year-old Bruce L. Eldridge on Tuesday. But she and Hoopeston Police Chief Mark Drollinger said they had no more information to release on the murder investigation.

Mr. Eldridge was found shot to death in one of the rooms at the Downtown Motel, 200 E. Main St., shortly after 9 p.m. The motel allowed guests to stay on a long-term basis, and Mr. Eldridge had been living there.

Witnesses told police that suspects fled the area on foot and then in a vehicle.

Police have asked that anyone with information about the case contact Hoopeston police at 217-283-5196.

You should use compassion and not use this picture. There are several of him with his children on his Facebook page. I find this very disrespectful on your part. He was a good decent person who was turning his life over to Christ. Change this picture out of respect for the family please. If you can't post a decent picture you shouldn't post one at all! RIP Big Bruce

I agree with both of the others who commented. He is the victim in this "story". Using a mugshot when there are other photo's available is tactless.
