Open house on Green Street improvements set for Wednesday

The public has a chance on Wednesday night to learn more about planned improvements to Green Street in Champaign.

An open house will be held at the Champaign Public Library from 4 to 6 p.m.

Green Street has already seen improvements from Wright to Fourth, and City Planner TJ Blakeman said officials are now looking at similar changes from Fourth to Neil.

The plans don't include any new high rises like we've been seeing pop up along Green Street lately.  But Blakeman said officials are hoping that when the upgrades are complete, development won't be far behind.

Officials are hoping to begin construction in 2016.
