Tennessee man injured in I-74 truck-car crash

OAKWOOD - A Tennessee man remained hospitalized Thursday morning after his tractor trailer truck struck a car and overturned on Interstate 74 Wednesday night.

The accident happened on the eastbound side of I-74 near Oakwood at 9:37 p.m.  The road was closed until about 6 a.m. today while police investigated.

Preliminary information from Illinois State Police is that Zachary S. Blakeny, 28, of Westville, was outside his car because it had engine trouble. The Ford was parked partially in the passing lane on the left shoulder.

A semitrailer tractor truck driven by Talyon S. Lewis, 37, of Seymour, Tenn., didn't see the car in time to avoid hitting it and struck the rear bumper of the car.

The semi then continued through the median, tipping on the driver's side. Lewis had to be cut out of the truck. He was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where he was listed in good condition this morning.

Police said the guardrail median wire and the concrete barrier were damaged in the crash as well.
