Trio arrested in Subway shop robberies

MONTICELLO — Two Decatur men and a juvenile have been arrested in connection with four robberies — three in Piatt County and one in Macon County.

Police believe the trio is responsible for three Subway sandwich shop robberies in Piatt County — two in Bement and one in Monticello — as well as another at a Casey's in Long Creek on Monday.

In custody in Macon County Jail are Kyle R. Anderson, 21 and Jamere S. Shannon, 22, each charged with aggravated robbery. A 16-year-old is also in custody, pending a court appearance.

A tip received by Piatt County Sheriff's Police concerning the two Bement thefts prompted authorities to work with Macon County to secure a search warrant Tuesday, which Piatt County Chief Deputy Mark Huckstep said led to evidence connecting the suspects to all four robberies.

"It's been consuming our time for a couple of months so it's nice to get it all wrapped up," Huckstep said. "When we can get people like that off the street, we're happy."

Police believe Anderson acted alone in the Bement crimes in January and February, and teamed with Shannon and the juvenile in Monticello on March 8.

Monticello Police Chief John Carter said he was "excited they are caught," but will still meet with business owners Friday to give them tips on security.
