Urbana man gets prison over falsified prescription

URBANA — An Urbana man who admitted he picked up a falsified prescription for a painkiller last fall was sentenced to prison earlier this week.

Champaign County Judge Tom Difanis sentenced Shaun Thomas, 35, of the 1700 block of Olympian Drive to 45 months in prison for burglary.

He pleaded guilty last month to the charge, admitting that on Nov. 11, he entered the Walgreens inside Carle Clinic to pick up a prescription for Vicodin that had purportedly been phoned in by a doctor.

Assistant State's Attorney Stephanie Weber said he was captured on videotape picking it up.

Thomas has prior convictions for obtaining substances by fraud, aggravated battery and writing bad checks, Weber said.
