Champaign man admits drug charge, gets 4 years

URBANA — A Champaign man who admitted possessing cocaine intended for sale was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison.

Kyle L. Greer, 22, of the 1300 block of Hedge Road, pleaded guilty to delivery of a controlled substance, admitting that on Dec. 7, he had 11 rocks of crack cocaine on him.

Judge Harry Clem accepted the plea agreement.

Assistant State's Attorney Scott Larson said Greer was a passenger in a car that Champaign police stopped on Hedge Road that day. He started to walk away from the officer but was stopped. The crack cocaine was found on him, Larson said.

Greer had prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

In addition to his prison term, he was ordered to pay $2,510 in fines and fees.
