Fire damages house in Danville

DANVILLE — Danville fire officials are investigating a fire that heavily damaged a home Thursday evening.

Firefighters received a call of a microwave on fire at 813 N. Kimball St. at 5:19 p.m. When they arrived, heavy fire and thick, black smoke were coming from the 11/2-story wood-frame house, said Capt. Todd Spicer.

He said the cause has not yet been determined.

Spicer said the house — a rental property owned by Kevin Flynn — was occupied, but no one was injured in the incident.

Spicer said crews had to cut holes in the roof to let the heat and smoke escape so that they could get in and extinguish the blaze. He said it took about 20 to 30 minutes to knock it down. Crews remained on the scene until close to 7 p.m. doing overhaul work.

Damage was estimated at about $35,000.
