The election is coming soon. How do we know? Because T.O.T.M. has been inundated with polls and surveys. Do you favor Candidate X? (Say yes to all of them.) Do you plan to vote in the primary? (Of course.)
It's a lot of fun, though it is unclear what the candidates get out of it. There is a whole lot of money being spent to find out the political ideals of T.O.T.M. Thanks for the attention. If you want to better prepare yourself for the upcoming politicsfest, go to Netflix and take a look at the compelling "House of Cards." You probably shouldn't vote for Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) unless he is up for an Oscar.
Enough with the political theory. Here is your nonpartisan weekend viewing guide:
Illinois vs. Pepperdine,
6 p.m., ESPN3
First, you are going to need a computer. One with a nice screen. ESPN3 isn't available anywhere but online. But how often do you get to watch college tennis on television? From nearby Atkins Tennis Center? Brad Dancer's team is part of the College Match Day on ESPN3, which includes a string of tennis matches across the country. No surprise Illinois got picked as a host. The school drew rave reviews for hosting the most recent NCAA tournament. Word gets around. Kevin Corke and Mark Bey will handle the call for ESPN3. Should be a hoot. Because of a twist in format, the match won't be typical. It could be as short as 90 minutes.
"Believe," 9 p.m.,
This is the premiere of the series, which opens with a 10-year-old girl (Bo) riding in the car with her parents. But a nasty car accident ends in the death of her parents. At the hands of an assassin. Sounds a bit on the complicated side. And there's more: a death row inmate is offered a chance to get out of prison if he agrees to protect the young girl. There's more: she has special gifts. Watch it for the first hour and decide if you want to continue.
NIT selection show, 7:30 p.m., ESPNU
Barring an unexpected run to the Big Ten tournament title, this will be the postseason landing spot for John Groce's Illinois basketball team. The Illini won't be hosting because of the renovations at the State Farm Center. Don't be surprised if the Illini are sent to Groce's old school, Ohio. That would guarantee a full house in Athens. The NIT likes full houses.
