UI police investigate armed robbery

URBANA - University of Illinois police are investigating an armed robbery in Urbana on Saturday afternoon.

According to a police report, a man was walking on the south side of the Transportation Building at 104 S. Mathews Avenue, Urbana, at about 12:45 p.m. when another man approached him and asked to use his cellphone.

The second man then displayed the handle of a gun, which was showing from inside the front pocket of his hoodie, and demanded the victim turn over his money.

After the victim handed over his money, the robber then ran way, heading north of Goodwin Avenue.

The robber was described as white male between 30 and 40 years old. His is about 6 feet, 1 inch tall. He is of thin to average build and had stubble on his face and spoke with an accent.

The robber was wearing a red hoodie that was pulled over his head and jeans.

Persons with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the robber are asked to all the University of Illinois Police Department at 333-1216 or Champaign County Crimestoppers at 373-TIPS (8477).

Information may also be sent anonymously online at www.373tips.com or by cellphone text message by sending CCTIP plus the information to CRIMES (274637).

Crimestoppers will pay a reward if the information leads to an arrest. Cash rewards are also paid for information on other felony crimes or fugitives in the Champaign County area.
