DANVILLE — CASA of Vermilion County is in need of volunteers to advocate for local abused and neglected children.
The organization is offering training for court-appointed special advocates at its newly-located office at First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Franklin St., Danville, starting next Tuesday.
Classes are 5 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday through April 22.
Volunteers must complete 30 hours of training prior to being sworn in as an advocate. Fifteen hours are in-class, and 15 are completed independently through an on-line course.
The nationally-recognized curriculum covers the role of an advocate, the juvenile court process, child abuse and neglect laws, child development, risk factors of child abuse and neglect and much more. All training and materials are free.
