The first day of spring brings to mind ...

Warmer weather?

Meteorologist Greg Soulje said we might reach the average high (51 degrees) this afternoon with plenty of sunshine and a light wind.

"As for the spring season itself, many to most days may feature anything but a day like today. A cooler- to colder-than-normal temperature and wet (perhaps very wet) outlook highlights the pattern through May of this year.

"There's still some degree of winter left to be dealt with. A mention of snow is in the forecast for early next week and perhaps beyond."

Summer Fun Guide

The annual Summer Fun Guide — our popular calendar of festivals, plays, day camps, concerts, donkey races, etc. — is scheduled to run in The News-Gazette on May 11.

If you'd like your event to be included — free of charge — let us know by April 14. Either email features@news-gazette.com or post it to our online calendar at news-gazette.com. We'll list activities that occur between May 12 and Sept. 30.

March Madness: Online edition

In Sunday's section, we'll unveil the first of this season's All-Area high school teams (girls' basketball). But, for the first time, we'll introduce the first team in advance online. At 7 p.m. Saturday, head to news-gazette.com where we'll post a video of our 10 all-stars in action. We'll do the same with our All-Area boys' basketball team the following weekend.
