Fisher won't donate land for senior housing

FISHER — Low-income subsidized senior housing will not come to Fisher any time soon.

Village board trustees say they have no interest in donating city-owned property near the community building for such an apartment complex.

Officials from the Champaign County Housing Authority had met with Fisher's planning and zoning board and pitched the project that would require the village donating the property.

Resident Jeanne Sloat told the village board: "This is right next to the village offices, the park. It would be stupid (to donate it) when the village might need to expand in the future and then have to buy more land. Who knows, there might be a library or a swimming pool in our future."
