Parts of Sixth, John streets to be closed

CHAMPAIGN — Parts of two streets on the University of Illinois campus will be closed over the next several days.

A portion of Sixth Street will be closed beginning Monday due to electric installation work and the removal of a tower crane.

Sixth Street will be closed between Green and John streets from March 24 to March 30 for electric installation work.

The same area will be closed from April 4 to April 6 for tower crane removal.

Through traffic will not be allowed during these two closures, but the contractor will accommodate deliveries.

Meanwhile, John Street will be closed between Third and Fourth streets beginning Monday while Mayfield Construction installs a sanitary sewer service connection at 309 E. John St.

No through traffic will be allowed in the construction area.

Two-way traffic will temporarily be allowed between Third and Fourth streets to accommodate properties in the area.

The street is scheduled to reopen on March 30.
