One arrested, two sought in home invasion in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN - One man was arrested and two more were being sought by police in a home invasion in Champaign that sent one man to the hospital Saturday night.

Police were called to the 00 block of Hanover Court in northwest Champaign at 8:48 p.m. Saturday for a report of a home invasion, according to Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn. 

Three men forced their way into a home and battered a man and woman who lived there, Dunn said. The woman was punched and the man, a 29-year-old, was stabbed in a fight with the assailants. The attackers searched the home before leaving in the occupants' vehicle.

When police arrived, they saw three men getting out of the vehicle and running away. They caught and arrested Korey Coleman, 21, of Champaign. 

The stabbing victim was taken to Carle Hospital in Urbana for what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Police asked for help in finding those involved. Anyone with information was asked to notify Champaign police at 351-4545, or to report anonymously via Champaign County Crimestoppers, either online at, by phone at 373-TIPS or by texting CCTIP plus the information to CRIMES (274637).
