DACC nursing students set fundraiser for cancer center

DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College's nursing class of 2015 is hosting a 5K Run-Walk-Crawl-Roll Saturday to benefit the Presence United Samaritans Cancer Center.

The event is open to runners and walkers of all ages. People with baby strollers are welcome.

The walk will begin behind the cancer center, 806 N. Logan Ave. Participants will go north on Logan Avenue, circle Lincoln Park three times, and then go back to the center.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the event will begin at 9 a.m.

In lieu of an entry fee, donations to the medical center's foundation will be accepted. The proceeds will be used to pay for medicine, transportation and other care and support for local cancer patients.

"For our class project, we really wanted to do something that would encourage people not only to get out and be active, but would also help support local patients that might be going through cancer treatments," said Jamie Farren, who is chairing the event.
