Home invasion suspect due back in court Friday
URBANA — An Urbana man is due back in court on Friday following his arrest for home invasion.
Jermaine K. Wilson, 35, who listed an address in the 2400 block of East Illinois Street, Urbana, was charged last week with home invasion causing injury.
Wilson is being held at the Champaign County Jail on $250,000 bond.
According to a Champaign police report released on Tuesday, Wilson had a previous relationship with the victim, a 27-year-old Urbana woman.
The woman told police that she had been sleeping on the couch at her home in the 1100 block of Joanne Lane, Champaign, on March 23. When she woke up at 1:37 p.m., she said she saw Wilson standing over her.
According to police, Wilson grabbed her, threw her body around and pushed her onto the floor, where he allegedly punched her several times.
When a family member suddenly arrived at the house and called 911, Wilson reportedly stole the woman’s cellphone and ran out of the home.
By the time police arrived, Wilson was gone.
Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said the woman received injuries. She said the report does not indicate whether the victim sought medical attention.
Then, at 3:34 p.m. the same day, Wilson allegedly returned to the woman’s home.
When she saw him there, she ran out of the house and Wilson fled from the scene.
Dunn said police found Wilson in the 500 block of Race Street in Urbana on Wednesday, arrested him and took him to the county jail.
