Improvements on tap for Champaign's Douglass Park

The head of the Champaign Park District said upgrading and maintaining the district's facilities is a very important part of what the organization does.

Ratio Architects, which has a Champaign office, will give a presentation Thursday night at a public meeting on the proposed improvements to Douglass Park at 512 East Grove Street.

Champaign Park District Executive Director Joe DeLuce said the meeting will include a review of the master plan for the park.  DeLuce said the park district is waiting to hear from the state on whether it will receive a $300,000 grant which will help pay for the $600,000 project.  He said the plan for Douglass Park includes several improvements.

DeLuce added that it's important to continue to maintain and upgrade the city's parks.

The public meeting will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Douglass Annex at 804 North Fifth Street in Champaign.

DeLuce said the hope is to begin work on the improvements to Douglass Park this summer.
