Kitchen fire damages Urbana home

URBANA — A fire caused an estimated $20,000 damage to an Urbana home.

Nobody was reported hurt.

According to an Urbana Fire Department report, firefighters were called to a fire at a home at 1118 Austin Drive at 11:55 p.m. Saturday.

When firefighters arrived a few minutes later, they discovered a kitchen fire. Apparently some food on top of a stove had caught on fire, and the fire spread to the cabinets above the stove.

According to the report, a family living there escaped without harm, and no firefighters were injured.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 12:10 a.m. Sunday and left the scene at 1:38 a.m.

The report said that the fire caused smoke damage throughout the house.
