Illinois transit agencies urge patent reform legislation
Companies that file frivolous patent lawsuits are in the crosshairs of transit groups across Illinois, including the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District.
At a news conference at C-UMTD's headquarters Monday, officials called on federal lawmakers to pass a law to rein in the so-called "patent trolls."
C-UMTD's Managing Director Bill Volk highlighted what transit groups hope to see in the legislation.
Volk on Monday also told the story of a patent lawsuit that hit one of its partner companies, Gibson City-based MCS Office Technologies. That company's President Todd McNutt said the company had no choice but to settle the suit.
The US House has already passed a patent reform bill, and a US Senate committee is set to discuss the issue this week.
