Man arrested for stealing a cello from a store

CHAMPAIGN — Police arrested a Champaign man after he reportedly tried to steal a cello from a downtown music store.

John S. Ziegler, 22, who listed an address in the 1500 block of Casselbury Lane, was charged Monday with one count of theft.

He is due back in court on April 29.

According to a police report, Ziegler snatched a cello from Corson Music, 71 E. University Ave., Champaign, then ran out of the store at 4:15 p.m. Friday.

The cello-bearing man was apprehended by a customer, who brought Ziegler and the cello back to the store, where he was held until police arrived.

Ziegler was arrested and taken to the Champaign County Jail, where he was released on his own recognizance.
