LeRoy police chief takes part in MDA fundraiser

McLEAN — LeRoy Police Chief Jason Williamson is "going to jail," according to the LeRoy Police Facebook page, and he needs citizen support to "bail him out."

Williamson is participating in a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and any money raised in bailing out the mock jailbird will go toward MDA research.

Williamson said he was contacted by Heyworth Police Chief Chris Lane, who had previously participated in the event but was unable to this year.

Per the program, community members with a high profile are "arrested" for "having a big heart" in their desire to help those afflicted with MD. Each jailbird has weeks to raise their donations.

Williamson's event will take place April 17, and until then he is looking to raise funds to meet "bail." The goal set on Williamson's website is $2,000, and the chief noted he had a long way to go before that number was reached.

"I am confident that we, LeRoyans, can outdo our neighboring communities on this effort," Williamson said.
