Man facing drug charge

URBANA — An East St. Louis man who admitted to police he was selling heroin is due back in court next month.

Aaron P. Broadnax, 27, was arraigned Monday in Champaign County Circuit Court on a single count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in connection with his arrest Friday afternoon.

Assistant State's Attorney Dan Clifton said an Illinois state trooper saw what he believed to be a drug transaction happening at a gas station in the 1500 block of North Neil Street in Champaign about 3 p.m. Friday.

The trooper made contact with Broadnax, who admitted he had a syringe. A search of Broadnax turned up five bags of heroin weighing a total of 1.3 grams, Clifton said.

"He admitted he'd been dealing heroin," Clifton said.

Broadnax was charged with a Class 1 felony carrying penalties upon conviction ranging from probation to four to 15 years in prison.

He remained in the county jail Tuesday in lieu of $7,500 bond.
