Man sentenced to probation in plea to sexual exploitation of a child

URBANA — An Urbana man who admitted he exposed himself in front of a child in February has been conditionally sentenced to two years of probation.

Judge Tom Difanis ordered that Gary Ledford, 45, of the 1700 block of Cindy Lynn Street, undergo a sex offender evaluation before Difanis enters the sentence that lawyers negotiated for Ledford.

Ledford pleaded guilty Tuesday to a single count of sexual exploitation of a child, admitting that on Feb. 22 he exposed himself for his own arousal.

Assistant State's Attorney Troy Lozar said the incident happened in the home of a neighbor on the same street. He said Ledford, who was under the influence of something, entered the home without permission and sat on the couch where the female resident was and made sexual advances toward her, which she rejected.

He then exposed himself in the presence of her son, who was under the age of 13, the prosecutor said.

In return for his guilty plea, another count of attempted criminal sexual assault was dismissed.

Difanis set a confirmation date on the plea for May 28.

Ledford will have to register as a sex offender. He was also sentenced to 30 days in jail, which he's already served.
