Catlin School Board approves consolidation with Jamaica

The proposed consolidation of the Catlin and Jamaica school districts in Vermilion County has taken another step forward.

The Catlin School Board Thursday night voted six to one to place the issue on the November ballot.  Last week, Jamaica School Board members approved the petition.  The Illinois State Board of Education must still sign off on the merger before it goes before voters in November.

Under the plan, each district would keep its grade school, while middle school students would attend class in Jamaica, and high school students would go to school in Catlin.
