Truck driver ticketed in crash

An Urbana man was ticketed after a two-truck crash early Friday on Interstate 74.

According to a state police report, Michael J. Grice, 44, of Urbana was driving a 1990 International garbage truck east on I-74 between Urbana and St. Joseph at 5:53 a.m. without proper lighting. A tractor-trailer driven by Johnny K. Summerlot, 51, of Coal City, Ind., also was traveling east but Summerlot didn't see the garbage truck. He tried to avoid hitting Grice's truck but couldn't, hitting it from behind and becoming disabled in the road.

Grice. who was treated and released at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, was ticketed for driving while his commercial license was canceled and driving a commercial vehicle without operable lamps.

Summerlot was not injured.
