3 free tap dance clinics scheduled

CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign Urbana Theatre Company and Central High School are hosting three free tap dance clinics from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on three consecutive Wednesday evenings, beginning tonight.

Tania Picard, a professional tap choreographer from Impact Tap in Bloomington, will lead all three clinics.

Each will begin with basic steps and build to a tap combination that will be used for auditions for CUTC's "Mary Poppins," to be presented July 31-Aug. 3 and Aug. 7-10.

Participants are asked to bring tap shoes to the clinics; a few pairs will be available to borrow at each one.

The clinics will be:

— Tonight in the Decker Theatre, Central High School, 610 W. University Ave., C.

— April 23, Decker Theatre, Central High.

— April 30, Arrow Building, 608 N. Cunningham Road, U.

The auditions for "Mary Poppins" will take place May 2-4 at the Arrow Building, but participants are not required to audition to participate in the free tap-dance clinics.
