Woman, 60, pleads to aggravated DUI, sent to prison for second time
URBANA — A 60-year-old Champaign woman was sentenced Wednesday to five years in prison for her fourth driving under the influence conviction.
Barbara Cressman, who listed an address in the 500 block of Yalow Drive, pleaded guilty before Judge Rich Klaus to aggravated DUI, admitting that on Oct. 18. she drove on Interstate 74 when she was under the influence.
Assistant State's Attorney Elizabeth Dornik said Cressman was on the shoulder near Illinois 130 east of Urbana. Several cars stopped because she appeared to be in and out of consciousness.
Thinking she might have a medical condition, state police took her to the hospital, where she gave incoherent answers to questions. She was unable to recall how she got to the interstate, Dornik said.
A chemical test revealed Cressman's blood-alcohol level was 0.167 percent, more than twice the limit for an Illinois motorist to be presumed intoxicated.
Dornik said Cressman had three previous DUI convictons in 2002 and 2008. She was previously sentenced to five years in prison for the 2008 conviction.
