Field to be named for Wolken

ST. JOSEPH — The softball coach with the most wins in IHSA history, 899, will be honored one week from today.

The St. Joseph-Ogden High School Board of Education agreed to name the softball field in Randy Wolken's honor in February.

"I am very honored and surprised by the SJ-O softball field being named 'Randy Wolken Field,'" Wolken said. "Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would be honored in this way."

Next Saturday's event will kick off at 11 a.m., when the Spartans take on Momence in the first game of a doubleheader. Game 2 is scheduled for 1 p.m.

At 2:30 p.m., a ceremony will take place unveiling the field's new name, followed by a reception in the SJ-O commons. A group photo with current and former players, coaches and managers will be taken.

The celebration will continue with a 7 p.m. gathering at Attie's Bar and Grill in Urbana.

Any questions about the event can be directed to Greg Knott at 217-841-6142 or gknott63@gmail.com.
