Savoy facility adds short-term rehab unit

SAVOY — Champaign Nursing and Rehab has added a 29-bed, short-term rehab unit for active seniors, and will add its own dialysis unit next month.

The 213-bed facility in Savoy added the new short-term unit, suited for stays of one week to several weeks, in an area that formerly housed Alzheimer's patients. The Alzheimer's unit was closed, said marketing director Lea Martin-Ackerman.

The short-term rehab unit provides patients individual treatment plans and access to physical, occupational and speech therapy six days a week. Martin-Ackerman said it also has its own dedicated gym with advanced care equipment that includes a virtual rehab system that simulates the patient's body movements and gives them a print-out of their progress. The new in-house four-station dialysis unit will allow residents to have shorter daily hemodialysis sessions rather than going off-site a few times a week for longer sessions, she said.

Formerly Champaign Urbana Regional Rehab, the facility at 302 Burwash Ave. was renamed after it changed ownership to Premier Healthcare Management last year, Martin-Ackerman said.

A new administrator, Don Jobe, is on board.
