First members chosen for PBL Hall of Fame

PAXTON — The first induction class for the newly created Paxton-Buckley-Loda Hall of Fame features former Major League Baseball pitcher Scott Garrelts; flying-car creator Sam Schweighart; and Frank Drendel, who is currently non-executive chairman of the board of CommScope Holding Company Inc., a public company that develops infrastructure solutions for communications networks in more than 100 countries.

The Hall of Fame selection committee considered several applications and decided upon three who stood out from the rest and "truly embodied the ideals and accomplishments that the Hall of Fame wishes to recognize." Those nominated that were not inducted this year will remain in the nomination pool and have an "outstanding chance" of being selected at a later date, officials said.

Inductees will be invited to address the high school student body on Thursday afternoon of homecoming week, said Principal Travis Duley, who serves on the selection committee. That night, they'll also ride in the homecoming parade, then be honored during a public ceremony at the high school football field.
