Rantoul selects trustees for administrator search

RANTOUL — Two village trustees were selected to be part of the committee that will screen applicants for a Rantoul village administrator, and Mayor Chuck Smith will tap members of the community to fill out the panel.

Trustees Jennifer Fox and Tony Brown will represent the village board on the committee. Smith will select from four to six members of the community to also serve on the committee.

Some residents who spoke out in favor of retaining Village Administrator Bruce Sandahl will be among those Smith will approach about serving. Some residents told Smith he was wrong in terminating Sandahl's contract because of all the economic development work the former administrator had accomplished.

Smith said he wants to get the village involved — even those who disagree with his decision.

"There's a healing process that needs to happen in the community," Smith said. "I want to reach out to them and get them involved in the process."

Sandahl's contract was terminated Feb. 28. Smith did not give a reason for the action.

The village has received 30 applications for the position. Smith said when the top six or seven applications are selected, "We'll do telephone interviews and then whittle it down to three or four."
