Welding mishap determined as cause of Urbana-area fire

Fire officials have determined the cause of blaze at a business of north Urbana on Wednesday afternoon was accidental.

Carroll Fire Protection District Lieutenant Jeremy Hoffman said someone welding at A-1 Pavement Maintenance at 3809 North Cunningham started the blaze in the west corner of a maintenance shed on the property.  Hoffman said the fire damage was limited to an attachment on a Bobcat tractor, while other parts of the structure sustained smoke and water damage. A garage door was also damaged.  Hoffman said a dollar amount for damages was not available.

Five crews in total helped fight the blaze:  Carroll, Edge-Scott, Saint Joseph-Stanton, Thomasboro and Eastern Prairie.
