Girl dies in fire in Danville

DANVILLE — A 3-year-old girl died in a fire late Saturday night in Danville.
According to public safety Director Larry Thomason, firefighters were called to a house fire at 1208 N. Franklin at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

“The first engine crew arriving reported the house fully involved on the first floor of the two-story structure,” Thomason said.  “Several people had been in the house, but all escaped except for a 3-year-old female. Crews had the scene under control within 45 minutes but were unable to enter prior to that due to heavy smoke and flame.”

Thomason said that the girl’s mother had been in a second-floor area and was forced to escape through a window. A second child, also 3, and a couple of adults also reportedly escaped.

The surviving girl and her mother were taken to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center for treatment. There were no other reported injuries.

Members of the Danville Fire Division and the state fire marshal’s office had reportedly not yet determined the cause of the fire Sunday.
