Man arrested in connection with shooting in Danville

DANVILLE — Police have arrested a man in a Wednesday shooting that sent a 19-year-old man to the hospital.

Public safety director Larry Thomason said Avion T. Smith, 18, of Danville was arrested without incident at 2 a.m. Saturday in a house in the 1000 block of Moore Street.

Smith was booked on a preliminary charge of aggravated battery with a firearm in connection with the shooting in the 2600 block of Cannon Street in Danville.

Coincidentally, according to Thomason, police were also seeking Smith in connection with an Illinois Department of Corrections warrant issued Friday for a similar charge.

Thomason said the victim, who was not identified, remains in stable condition in an Urbana hospital, and Smith is being held at the Vermilion County jail without bond on the state warrant and the preliminary charge of aggravated battery.
