Cancer society seeks volunteers for Vermilion program

DANVILLE — The American Cancer Society is looking for volunteer drivers in Vermilion County for its Road to Recovery program, which provides free rides to cancer patients to their treatments.

Cancer patients can require 20 to 30 trips for radiation therapy over six weeks and chemotherapy treatment can run weekly for a year, says Claire Sharp, a mission delivery specialist for the cancer society. Getting to all these treatments can be the biggest concern cancer patients have, the cancer society has found.

To volunteer for or learn more about the program, call 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.
