Monticello man charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child
MONTICELLO — A Monticello man is due back in court next month after being criminally charged last week with sexually molesting a child.
Piatt County State's Attorney Dana Rhoades charged Richard L. Offenback Jr., 48, with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child, alleging acts that occurred more than once with a child under the age of 18 between the spring of 2012 and the winter of 2013.
Rhoades said the matter came to the attention of the Department of Children and Family Services when the child reported around March 20 what had allegedly happened to her. The Piatt County sheriff's office then began an investigation.
Rhoades said she filed the charges against Offenback last Wednesday and on Thursday obtained a warrant for his arrest.
He turned himself in Monday and posted $2,500 cash to be released. He's been ordered to be back in court May 20.
As a condition of his bond, Offenback was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.
If convicted of the Class 2 felony, Offenback faces penalties ranging from probation to three to seven years in prison.
