Champaign library fund drive nets national award

CHAMPAIGN — A library fundraising campaign helped bring in 60 percent more money and a $10,000 cash prize from the H.W. Wilson Foundation.

The "Show Some Library Love" fundraising campaign was one of eight winners of the 2014 John Cotton Dana Library Public Relations Award, sponsored by the H.W. Wilson Foundation, EBSCO Information Services and the American Library Association.

The campaign "invited community involvement" with photobooth images of library patrons, trustees and staff members posing with their favorite books, and library foundation members recorded testimonials in radio advertisements.

The campaign was planned and managed by the library's development director, Donna Pittman, and the creative concept, copywriting and design were the work of library promotions manager Elizabeth Otto, according to a library press release.

The eight winners will be recognized at the American Library Association's annual conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 29.
