Unit 4 administrator to get national honor

Laura Taylor, whose name has become synonymous with social justice in Champaign-Urbana schools, will be saluted for her work with a national award.

The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network has named Taylor its 2014 Educator of the Year. She'll be honored on March 19 at the group's Respect Awards gala in New York.

GLSEN cited Taylor's "unfaltering commitment to improving the educational experience for youth across the board" — both as Urbana High School principal (2006-12) and in her current role as assistant superintendent for Champaign's Unit 4 Schools.
