Vending theft brings three-year prison term

URBANA — An Urbana man who admitted stealing cash from a vending machine in the apartment building where he was living has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Champaign County Judge Tom Difanis agreed to recommend Jesse Karrick, 19, who listed an address in the 1300 block of North Lincoln Avenue, for the Department of Corrections' boot camp program.

Karrick pleaded guilty Tuesday to theft with a prior burglary conviction, admitting that on April 17, he stole money out of a vending machine at the Atrium Apartments, 1306 N. Lincoln Ave., U.

Assistant State's Attorney Troy Lozar said Karrick was captured on video breaking into the machine.

Karrick was serving sentences of probation for a 2012 conviction for unlawful use of a credit card and a 2013 conviction for burglary when he was arrested. Both those sentences were terminated as unsuccessful in light of his sentence to prison.
