Man facing gun, drug charges

URBANA — A Champaign man who allegedly possessed a gun and drugs in Urbana early Friday has been charged with a number of felony offenses.

State's Attorney Julia Rietz said Christopher J. Wilson, 20, who listed an address in the 1600 block of West Bradley Avenue, was arrested about 3 a.m. Friday in the 1300 block of Lierman Avenue by Champaign County sheriff's deputies.

Rietz said the deputies were sent to a call of people with guns.

They stopped a Jeep in that area for alleged traffic violations and found Wilson and three others inside. Wilson is on probation for a 2013 robbery conviction, Rietz said.

A backpack belonging to him turned up methamphetamine, a loaded .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun, and a plastic bag with about a gram of cocaine, she said.

Wilson was charged Friday with armed violence, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and possession of methamphetamine. If convicted of the most serious charge, he faces six to 30 years in prison.

Judge Richard Klaus set Wilson's bond at $100,000 and told him to be back in court June 24.
