In 1914: Champaign High School defeated Gibson City, 9-5, on Saturday in a game played at Gibson City. Sill, the Champaign pitcher, gave up five runs in the first six innings, but the Champaign youngsters began to give better support and Sill improved his pitching.
In 1964: Darius Phebus, a prominent Urbana attorney, will be a candidate for the Republican nomination for circuit judge in the 6th Judicial Circuit, to fill a vacancy created by Judge Charles Keller's retirement. Associate Judge Fred Green also has announced his candidacy for the post. Phebus has been a partner in the law firm of Phillips, Phebus and Tummelson since the death of Henry I. Green in 1954.
In 1999: The Perkins Restaurant at 21 E. Kenyon Road, C, is available for lease after the closing of the restaurant on April 25. A newer Perkins at 1214 W. University Ave., U, made the older establishment unnecessary, said a spokeswoman for the Memphis, Tenn.-based company.
