Minor injury in collision at U.S. 45 intersection in Savoy

SAVOY — Champaign County sheriff's deputies were trying to determine who was at fault in an intersection collision Saturday afternoon that sent one child to the hospital.

Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Tony Shaw said Brandi Akers, 30, of Broadlands, was headed south on Dunlap Avenue, also known as U.S. 45, at 1:18 p.m. when a northbound mini-van in the turn lane turned left in front of her.

The driver of the second van was Casey R. Clarence, 76, of Savoy.

Deputy Billy Pryor said Akers had her two daughters in the van with her. One was taken to Presence Covenant Medical Center to be checked out for pains she was having from the seat belt restraining her. She was treated and released, Pryor said.

None of the other people involved were injured, he said.
